It's been a week since my first post, so I thought it time to make another update. I started a bit of a short story today, which I hope to have finished within the next day or two. It's been pretty fun to write, and while I don't see it winning any awards, I think it's a good start to getting back into writing.
Back to the point of this post, I've been reading a site for the past few weeks called Magical Words. My current favorite book genre is is fantasy, specifically urban fantasy, and most of the people (if not all of them) writing for the site fall into those categories. The tips on the site vary from tips to help you build better characters all the way to helping you get a novel published. That side of things doesn't quite apply to me (yet, hopefully), but one recent post in particular did answer a question that I had thought of while thinking about my short regarding acceptable ways to write about known monsters. I'll write about it a bit more later this week, probably after posting my short.
As an aside, for those who don't know what urban fantasy is, think detective novels with fantasy elements. One of the easiest examples is Jim Butcher's Dresden series. Dresden is a private investigator who also happens to be an honest to God wizard. Set in Chicago (mostly...), Dresden fights monsters and protects us mere mortals, while trying to just be left alone.
That's it for today. Hope to have the short finished and posted soon. Until then, check out Magical Words, read some good stuff, and keep wandering.

To the Wandering...
Hello everyone (or anyone...anyone?). Welcome to A Wandering of Words. This is a place for me to share my experience as I begin the process of writing. First, a little about me.
My name is Lee. I haven't written anything story-like just for the sake of writing since high school, which was (at the time of this writing) 10 years ago. I've been in a few bands and done some lyric writing here and there, but this is a creative outlet I've wanted to get back to and just never did.
And that's what this blog is about. I plan to document my time as I learn things about writing, put up links to sites with great articles about starting writing and where I might be in the process of writing a story (or novel, assuming I make it that far), and possibly even put up some short stories here and there. They say one of the best things a new writer can do is just to write, and that's where the blog comes in. I plan to post at least once a week, and then attempt to put in some sort of short story at least once a month.
So follow along, feel free to comment on posts and stories, and I hope you enjoy my (hopefully) many wanderings.
